Description

Appsmith is an open-source low-code platform that helps teams build custom web apps like dashboards, admin panels, and internal tools much faster and cheaper than traditional coding, using an easy drag-and-drop interface and lots of ready-made widgets while still letting you add logic with JavaScript. It connects smoothly to databases, APIs, and even powerful AI features, so you can create AI-powered tools like smart chat, document analysis, or recommendation engines if you want. Because it’s open source, you can host it yourself and stay in control, use version control with Git, and mix simple builders with real code to make apps that fit your exact needs.

Features

  • Drag-and-drop UI builder (pre-built widgets like tables, forms, charts, buttons)
  • Database integrations (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, etc.)
  • REST & GraphQL API integrations
  • Built-in JavaScript editor for custom logic
  • Generate CRUD pages automatically
  • Git-based version control integration
  • Custom code extension (HTML/JS)
  • Reusability (shared widgets/queries/JS logic)
  • Workflow automation
  • Self-hosting or cloud deployment options

Appsmith is a highly rated open-source low-code platform for building internal tools, praised for its intuitive drag-and-drop interface, rich integrations with databases and APIs, and rapid development that boosts productivity. Users appreciate the ease of use, affordability, and flexibility for developers, though some note performance issues with large apps and a need for technical skills.

Our Expert's Opinion

[4.7/5]

After using Appsmith and comparing it with other low-code tools, I feel it is very powerful and flexible for building internal apps quickly, especially if you connect to databases and APIs and write a bit of JavaScript, but it can also be frustrating at times because it needs some technical skill to use well and is not as beginner-friendly as pure no-code platforms; the drag-and-drop builder is useful, yet the UI design and customization options feel limited, there are no dark mode and fewer widgets than some competitors, and some parts like navigation or table behavior can feel awkward or require workarounds, so while it’s great for developers and internal tools, it may not be ideal for simple apps or non-technical builders.
